Google Pixel 8 users can now unlock WhatsApp by Face
Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro’s Face unlock can now authenticate WhatsApp. The company brought face unlock support with the Pixel 7 series in 2022. Meanwhile, the last year’s Pixel flagships gain support for WhatsApp for easier authentication.
Prior to WhatsApp, Face unlock of Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro can authenticate tap-to-pay and banking apps. WhatsApp introduces Fingerprint as an authentication method on supported Android devices. However, the Pixel 8 users can now unlock the app with the face unlock feature.
Following the upgrade, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro got a third way to unlock WhatsApp. Once released, users will notice the system face unlock sheet at the bottom of the screen. The selfie camera cutout will also display a ring to offer a dynamic look on the screen.
If the Face unlock fails to authenticate WhatsApp, you can do so using a Fingerprint, or PIN. Pixel 8’s Face Unlock functionality meets Android’s highest biometric standard level (Class 3). Tensor G3 and advanced ML algorithms are the reason behind this upgrade, Google says.
Users received the new feature with WhatsApp v2.24.8.85 on the Stable channel. As the rollout is taking place sequentially, users may not immediately be able to activate it. We believe a broader deployment will happen shortly, giving access to all eligible users.
