New Android Features: Sharing locations, playing games, and more

Google recently shared exciting updates for Android users in Spring 2025, alongside the Pixel (Feature) Drop. Two big highlights are location sharing with Find My Device and full games coming to Android Auto.

Until now, Find My Device has helped you track things like phones, tablets, watches, earbuds, and trackers. Soon, the Android app will add a “People” tab, which is currently being tested. This tab will show a map with your friends’ locations. Below the map, you’ll see a list of people, where they are, and how close they are to you. You can sort this list by “Sharing with you” or “You’re sharing with” options.

Want to share your spot? Just tap a button on the map to send your live location. You’ll see a preview of what you’re sharing and can pick how long it lasts. Then, choose who gets to see it from the list. You can also share via a link. This works a lot like Google Maps, which still runs the show behind the scenes. Your location stays secure, and you control who sees it and for how long, with handy reminders about who you’re sharing with.

Find My Device is joining other apps by adding people tracking. Having everything in one place is smart, but the app might need a new name now! On another note, Android Auto is stepping up with real games, not just the small GameSnacks. When your car is parked, games already on your phone—like Farm Heroes Saga, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Angry Birds 2, and Beach Buggy Racing—will show up on your car’s screen.

With the Pixel Drop, Google Messages is also getting a scam alert feature that works right on your phone. Using AI, it spots sneaky text patterns tied to scams, warning you about risky messages. You’ll see a “Scam Detection” alert saying, “Likely scam: Suspicious activity detected.” You can report and block it or mark it as safe. This could save you from losing cash or personal info. Lastly, Chrome is adding a price helper. When you’re shopping, a button near the address bar will show you deal insights for products.
