Google updates family link app for easier parenting on Android
Google has launched a fresh look for its Family Link app on Android, making it simpler for parents to keep track of their kids’ screen time. This change, announced last month, focuses on putting the most useful tools right where parents can find them easily.
The app now opens with a “Screen time” tab instead of the old “Highlights” section. At the top, you’ll see a card showing “Time spent today” and a list of the apps used most. Tap it, and you get a full breakdown of how time was spent. Below that, there are quick options for Device (with a handy “Lock” button), Time limits, and Schedules.
With this update, Google has made things smoother by merging app limits and daily limits into one easy button for setting time rules. The middle “Controls” tab keeps its spot and gets a stylish Material You touch. It offers clear links to manage Google Account settings, Google Play, YouTube, Google Chrome and web browsing, Google Search, Google Photos, Location settings, and devices signed into the account.
The last tab, “Location,” has a sharper, updated map design. Another big goal of this refresh is to help parents oversee multiple kids and devices without stress. A new pill-shaped switch in the top-left corner makes jumping between them a breeze. This redesigned Family Link is rolling out now with version 2.47 on Android, though it hasn’t hit iOS yet.
This update comes right after Google introduced Google Wallet for kids in some countries yesterday. That feature works on both phones and Wear OS watches, giving parents even more ways to stay in control. The new Family Link design keeps things simple and clear, so parents can focus on what matters—helping their kids use tech wisely.
