New features make the Gemini app even better
The Gemini app, created by Google, is getting some exciting updates that make it more fun and useful on Android and iOS devices. As of March 21, 2025, users can now enjoy two big changes: Audio Overviews and a redesigned “plus” menu. These updates aim to help people get more out of the app simply and enjoyably.
First, the Audio Overviews feature is now available. This lets the app turn documents, slideshows, or research reports into short podcast-style talks. Imagine two AI voices chatting about your uploaded file, summing it up, and sharing cool insights. When you upload something, you’ll see a “Generate Audio Overview” option. It takes a few minutes to create, and you’ll get a notification when it’s ready. You can listen to it in your browser since the app doesn’t have an audio player yet. These audio summaries are great for quickly understanding your content without reading everything.
Second, the “plus” menu has a fresh new look. Before, it was a plain list, but now it shows neat side-by-side buttons for Camera, Gallery, Files, and Drive (Drive isn’t on iOS). This makes it faster to pick how you want to add stuff to the app. Along with this, a tool called Canvas is rolling out too. Canvas lets you write and edit text right in the app, perfect for drafting things like essays or blog posts. On phones, it’s simpler than on computers, but it still gets the job done.
Both features started rolling out this week and are available to all Gemini users, whether you’re on the free version or the paid one. The Audio Overviews are in English for now, with more languages coming soon. These updates show Google’s effort to make the app smarter and easier to use. Whether you’re listening to a quick summary or tweaking a draft, the Gemini app is becoming a handy tool for everyday tasks.
