Google Maps and Pixel Camera get simple, smart updates
Google is making travel and photography easier with new features for Google Maps and the Pixel Camera, rolled out on March 27, 2025. These updates use smart technology to help users in everyday tasks.
For Google Maps, a cool new tool powered by Gemini lets the app check your phone’s screenshots. If you’ve snapped pictures of social media posts, articles, or blogs mentioning places, Maps can spot them. A “Screenshots List” will pop up in the app, showing these finds.
Gemini figures out the locations and asks if you want to save them. You can even see details about each spot. This feature starts on iPhones in the U.S. (in English) and will soon come to Android. It’s optional—you need to let Maps access your photos to use it.
Meanwhile, the Pixel Camera now has a handy palm timer trick. Raise your hand, and it starts a countdown to take a photo—no tapping needed. This works with the back camera too, making group shots or selfies simpler. Google added a note to remind users it might not work well in dim light.
The update also brings small tweaks, like a starry animation for night sky photos, which you can turn off if you like. These changes make planning trips and snapping pictures smoother and more fun. Google keeps things user-friendly, blending smart tech with simple tools to help you out!
