New updates for Google Messages and App Settings
Google Messages is getting some cool updates to make chatting easier and safer. One change makes read receipts pop with a white background, so you can spot them quickly. If you use two SIM cards, both can now work with RCS chats, which is great for texting across borders.
This feature started rolling out last year and is now reaching more people. Another handy addition is a shortcut for Magic Compose and Magic Rewrite, letting you spruce up your messages without extra taps. Some users can also double-tap to send a thumbs-up instead of a heart.
Plus, Google Messages now uses smart tech to spot scam texts, warning you or moving them to spam to keep you safe. Meanwhile, the Google app is simplifying things by removing the Assistant settings option. If you open the app and tap your profile, you won’t see “Google Assistant” listed anymore.
This change is part of Google’s plan to phase out the classic Assistant on phones, with Gemini taking over later this year. For now, users with older phones running Android 9 or earlier can still use the old Assistant setup.
