Google officially stops security updates for Android 12

Google has confirmed that Android 12 will no longer receive monthly security updates. This change was made official with the release of the April 2025 security bulletin, which did not include Android 12 in its list of supported versions.

Android 12 was first launched in October 2021 alongside the Pixel 6 series. Like other Android versions, it was supported with regular security patches for over three years. But now, that support window has closed. Google’s updated documentation for the Android Security Bulletins confirms that Android 12’s last patch was in March 2025.

This move isn’t surprising, as Google typically provides security updates for Android versions for about three years. Pixel phones running Android 12 can still be used, but they are now more vulnerable to new threats unless upgraded to a newer Android version.

If you’re still using Android 12, it’s strongly recommended to update your device, if possible, to a newer version like Android 13 or 14. Not getting security patches means your phone may no longer be protected against recent bugs or malware.

Overall, the end of support is a routine part of Android’s lifecycle, but it’s a reminder to keep your devices up to date for better safety and performance.
