Google brings Gemini to cars and offers free AI access to students
Google is expanding its Gemini AI in two big ways — by bringing it to cars and offering it for free to students.
First, Google is working on adding Gemini AI to Android Automotive, the software used in many car infotainment systems. New code hints show that Gemini could soon be used as a voice assistant in cars. This would allow drivers to ask questions, get directions, or control settings just by talking — making driving safer and easier. It may even replace Google Assistant in some future vehicles, especially in cars that already use Android without needing a phone.
At the same time, Google is making Gemini more accessible for students. The company is giving college students free access to the AI Premium plan through Google One. This plan usually costs $20 a month and includes access to Gemini Advanced, which uses the powerful Gemini 1.5 Pro model. Students can use it through the Gemini app or inside Google apps like Docs, Gmail, and more.
To get the free plan, students need to sign up with an eligible school email. Google says this offer will be available in the coming months, helping students with studies, projects, and other tasks. These updates show that Google wants Gemini to be a big part of both everyday life and learning — whether you’re in the classroom or on the road.
