Google’s Gemini is about to get a major upgrade, says DeepMind CEO
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis has confirmed that a new version of Gemini is coming soon. In an interview with Wired, Hassabis said they’re working hard on the next big upgrade for the Gemini AI model, which could arrive in the next few months.
Gemini is Google’s powerful AI model that competes with others like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The latest version, Gemini 1.5, was released earlier this year. It impressed many people with its long context window and strong performance. Now, Google is aiming to make it even better.
Hassabis didn’t share the exact name of the next model, but he said it will be a “pretty large step up” from the current version. While he didn’t confirm a launch date, he hinted that it may arrive around May, which lines up with Google I/O 2025.
He also spoke about the importance of safety in AI. Before launching a new model, Google wants to make sure it’s tested properly and safe to use. Hassabis added that the next Gemini version might be even more powerful than GPT-4, though he didn’t go into details.
With this upcoming release, Google seems ready to make another big move in the AI race, offering smarter and more advanced tools for users.
