Google accused of selling ‘Too Hot to Handle’ Pixel 6 Pro in lawsuit

Google is accused of selling defective Pixel 6 Pro units, which made it too hot to handle. Interestingly, the complainant claims that Google was aware of the defect in the Pixel 6 Pro, which led it to overheat.
Law360 reports that Jennifer Hyatt filed a class action lawsuit against Google over the Pixel 6 Pro. The suer went through “numerous” replacement Pixel 6 Pro units only to discover that each one had an overheating defect.

Unlike the basic/personal complaints, the plaintiff wants Google to create an ad, informing Pixel 6 Pro buyers about overheating. Also, the company should be required to recall and issue a refund to people who bought the device.
To be noted, Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are the first smartphones launched by Google, equipped with Tensor chipset. Previous Pixel devices like Pixel 5 were equipped with Snapdragon processors which are a mature tech product now.
If the lawsuit goes forward, it will claim that Google violates California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, False Advertising Law, Unfair Competition Law, and the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act.

Android 16’s advanced protection mode to enhance security with one-click activation

Google is improving security for Android 16 with a new feature called Advanced Protection Mode. This mode, accessible through the Settings app, will provide users with stronger protection by blocking certain vulnerabilities. The upgrade will stop app sideloading, prevent 2G network connections, and enable Memory Tagging Extension for apps. Additionally, apps on your device will be able to check if you’re enrolled in Advanced Protection Mode, allowing them to apply extra security measures.
The latest update for Google Play Services (v25.15.31 beta) reveals more about the upcoming features of Advanced Protection Mode. These features are categorized for ease of use when enabling the mode:
Network & Wi-Fi:
-
Block insecure connections, including 2G networks and WEP Wi-Fi.
Web:
-
Android Safe Browsing will block harmful websites.
-
Chrome will warn you before visiting non-HTTPS sites.
-
JavaScript protection will limit advanced capabilities to lower risks.
Apps:
-
Play Protect and Memory Tagging Extension for app security.
-
Block sideloading of apps.
Device Theft Protection:
-
Theft protection and offline device lock.
-
Device inactivity reboot every 3 days.
Phone & Messages Protection:
-
Automatic Call Screen and spam detection with Phone by Google.
-
Google Messages will filter spam and warn about unsafe links.
Once enabled, Advanced Protection Mode will automatically turn on all these features. There may not be individual toggles for each feature, but you can find them in other settings within the app. This one-click protection will help secure your device and prevent potential security threats.
Pixel 9a test unit shows a strange selfie camera bug

Google’s upcoming Pixel 9a phone is already being tested by some people, and one of them has found a strange problem with the front camera. A video shared online shows that the selfie camera has a bug that causes the whole screen to turn green for a moment when switching to it.
The short clip shows someone opening the camera app and switching from the back to the front camera. As they do that, the screen flashes completely green for a second before the actual selfie view appears. This issue seems to happen only the first time the front camera is turned on.
This bug is only showing up on a test unit of the Pixel 9a, so Google may fix it before the phone is officially released. Test devices often have early versions of software, which can include small problems like this. That said, it’s a good sign that people are already testing the Pixel 9a, meaning the launch might not be far off.
Google is expected to reveal the Pixel 9a at its I/O 2025 event in May, just like previous “a” series phones. Hopefully, this camera issue will be fixed by then. The Pixel 9a is expected to bring improvements while still being more affordable than the regular Pixel models.
Google Pixel Watch 4: First look at its design

Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch 4 is creating buzz with its sleek and modern design, revealed through recent leaks. The smartwatch keeps the signature circular shape that fans love, but it brings some fresh updates that make it stand out.
The Pixel Watch 4 has a smooth, rounded body with a shiny finish, giving it a stylish and polished look. Its digital crown, a key feature for easy navigation, is slightly larger this time, making it simpler to use. The watch also seems to have a thinner frame, which could mean a bigger screen for viewing notifications, apps, or fitness stats.
Leaked images show the watch in multiple colors, including a classic black, a soft silver, and a bold new shade that might catch attention. The straps look comfy and interchangeable, so users can switch up their style easily. Whether you’re dressing up or keeping it casual, the Pixel Watch 4 seems ready to match any vibe.
On the tech side, rumors suggest the Pixel Watch 4 will run on Google’s latest Wear OS, offering smoother performance and better battery life. It’s expected to pack advanced health features like heart rate tracking, sleep monitoring, and possibly even stress detection. These tools aim to help users stay on top of their wellness goals.
The leaked video gives a 360-degree view of the watch, highlighting its slim design and vibrant display. While Google hasn’t shared an official release date yet, the Pixel Watch 4 is shaping up to be a strong contender in the smartwatch world. Fans are excited to see how it will blend style and smart features when it finally hits the market.
