Google today announced the launch of the AI Opportunity Initiative, pledging $27 million (25 million euros) to build an AI-ready Europe. The company aims to help provide training and skills to support people and countries to be successful in seizing the opportunity of artificial intelligence.

In its press release, Google revealed that it had opened applications for social enterprises and nonprofits, which could help reach those most likely to benefit from AI training in Europe. The company has also expanded its free online AI training courses to 18 languages.

Earlier, the US tech giant revealed an investment of $1 billion into building a data center just outside of London. The data center will be located in the town of Waltham Cross, about 15 miles (24.14 km) north of central London, to meet the growing demand for internet services in Europe.

Google believes the European region can lead the way in harnessing AI to create a strong and equitable economy with more productive industries, more meaningful work, and many new kinds of jobs.

“Working in partnership with governments and local communities, we’ll provide a range of foundational and advanced AI training to support vulnerable communities, startups, and everyone.” – Google said in its blog post.
