The first Developer Preview version (DP1) of Android 15 is rumored to release this Thursday. This input comes from a “public-facing comment,” indicating that developer activities could start later this week.

Last year, Google introduced the Developer Preview program of Android 14 in February. The company appears to be sticking with the same release timeframe, as DP1 is the first step toward the journey of the new OS’s development.

Vanilla Ice Cream is expected to be the desert name for the Android 15 operating system, as noted by a Google developer, who also posted a comment to the Android Open Source Project earlier.

The comment notes that the first preview of Android 15 is “scheduled for” this Thursday, February 15, 2024. However, it’s not officially confirmed yet, as Google will make an official announcement alongside sharing the plan.

It’s worth noting that Google released the Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 on February 8. This build brought a revamped easter egg and codename for the next iteration of Google’s mobile operating system.

Pixel smartphone users will be able to install the DP version of the Android 15 this week (if released). However, the new operating system will become accessible once after Google seeds it to Public Beta around I/O 2024.
