Google has now officially announced that Android’s Photo Picker now supports Google Photos cloud media. It comes as a significant update as the Photo Picker will now allow you to select media from cloud libraries.

Following the update, Android’s Photo Picker integrates media stored on cloud from your chosen media app, including Google Photos. It’s rolling out as part of February 2024 Google Play System update to Android 12+ devices.

Android’s Photo Picker has always been the gateway to users’ local media library, providing a secure, date-sorted interface for users to grant apps access to selected images and videos.

What’s Changing:

Backed-up photos, also known as “cloud photos,” will now be merged with your local ones in the photo picker, eliminating the need to switch between apps.

Available in Google Photos, the Photo Picker will attempt to auto-select a cloud media app for you, but you can change or remove your selected cloud media app at any time from Photo Picker settings.
