EU decision keeps Apple iMessage closed: Blow for Android?
The European Commission (EU) announced not to open up Apple iMessage. The governing body has concluded its investigation into Apple’s iMessage and Microsoft’s Bing, Edge, and Advertising services.
According to the EU (via TheVerge), Apple’s iMessage and Microsoft’s Bing, Edge, and Advertising services are not being designated as gatekeepers for these core platform services under the Digital Markets Act.

In case the EU decided otherwise, Apple would have been forced to open up iMessage to others and allow interoperability with the Android operating system, perhaps ending the “blue bubble vs green bubble” texting wars.
This means, the companies won’t be required to comply with strict interoperability rules. It is a big relief for Apple as it won’t need to open up iMessage in the European Union.
The decision comes right after Apple’s recent announcement to adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Standard) support. It will end the long-standing demand of users texting through SMS across Android and iOS devices.
