Google’s Gemini 1.5 launches with dramatically enhanced performance

Google today officially introduced Gemini 1.5, which delivers dramatically enhanced performance. This follows the company announcement of Gemini 1.0 that happened in December 2024.

The company says Gemini 1.5 Pro has a standard context window of 128,000 tokens. It’s capable of translating over 700,000 words, codebases with over 30,000 lines of code, 11 hours of audio, or 1 hour of video.

Google revealed it has increased Gemini 1.5 Pro’s context window capacity far beyond the original 32,000 tokens for Gemini 1.0, through a series of machine-learning innovations.

Gemini 1.5 Pro can also seamlessly analyze, classify and summarize large amounts of content within a given prompt. Besides, it can perform highly sophisticated understanding and reasoning tasks for different modalities.

Starting today, the search engine giant is offering a limited preview of 1.5 Pro to developers and enterprise customers via AI Studio and Vertex AI. Developers interested in testing 1.5 Pro can sign up now in AI Studio, while enterprise customers can reach out to their Vertex AI account team.
