Like last year, Google has been sidelining a Pixel phone from the Android 15 distribution program. The Pixel 5a is eligible for updates until August 2024, but Google dropped it from the Android 15 Developer Preview itself.

Google’s move confirmed that the Pixel 5a will be treated like its predecessor. The Pixel 4a didn’t receive the Android 14 update, and the Pixel 5a is no longer listed in the Developer Preview of v15 this year.

We just reported that Android 15 is Google’s first OS that will be available for Tensor-powered Pixel phones only. All Snapdragon Pixels will spend their remaining life on the Android 14 OS, released last year.

Next month, Google will release this year’s first Pixel Feature Drop that will also be available for the Pixel 5a. Two more Feature Drop updates are likely to be provided to the Pixel 6a predecessor.

Google’s Pixel 5a is a mid-range smartphone, which launched in August 2021. The device was shipped with Android 11 and received three major operating system upgrades since its global release.

It’s unquestionably bad news for Google fans having a Pixel 5a smartphone. Even after having months of software support left, the device got kicked out from the eligibility chart of Android 15.

The US tech giant needs to consider revising its Android upgrades support for Tensor-based Pixels. Samsung is going to launch a ~ $180 phone in India soon, which will have support for four years of major OS upgrades.
