Snapdragon Google Pixel phones quit Android 15 race
With the launch of the Pixel 6 lineup, Google reaffirmed its commitment to the smartphone segment. The company made many significant changes including a major design overhaul and abandoned the Snapdragon chipset in favor of its own designed Tensor processor.
Google smartphones launched before the Pixel 8 lineup are only eligible for three major Android upgrades. This year, all Pixel phones powered by Snapdragon processors quit the race for a new Android operating system upgrade that is the Android 15.

Pixel 5 series is not eligible for the Android 15 upgrade, Google confirmed. Pixel phones launched after late October 2021 are eligible for Android 15 this year. The list includes Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 series as well as their mid-range “a” counterparts.
All of the eligible phones are powered by Tensor chipset. The change that Google adopted in late 2021 has finally been implemented this month. The company is expected to continue its Tensor chip, so this means, Snapdragon Pixels are dead now – at least from software support.
