Google Camera GCam Ports might not live longer

The Pixel 5, which was Google’s last Snapdragon chipset lineup, isn’t eligible for upgrade to Android 15. This indicates that Google might make it impossible to develop Google Camera GCam Ports.

As Snapdragon-powered Google Pixel phones are no longer supported, it might not be possible for developers to port Pixe-exclusive features as well as Google Camera for non-Pixel Android smartphones.

It aligns with Google’s earlier decision to rename the Google Camera as Pixel Camera. The company wants to keep Pixel-exclusive features and capabilities limited to Pixel phones itself.

Therefore, a ban on Google Camera Ports is not impossible, as recent developments point at the same. Google now has full control of Pixel 6 and later devices, thanks to the Tensor CPU.

The company may also remove Qualcomm DSP support from Google Camera. Without support for Qualcomm DSP, Google Camera would be ported to GCam but the processing speed of images would make it entirely useless.

So far, Google hasn’t officially stated on the concern.
