Google Messages RCS feature banned on rooted Android phones?
Google Messages app introduces the RCS messaging feature to Android devices. In a recent development, it has been discovered that Google is silently disabling RCS Messages on rooted phones.
If you install a custom ROM on your Android phone, it lacks GMS certification, leading you to manually flash Google apps. You might be able to get GMS apps on your rooted smartphone, but the top-notch features may stop working.
In a Reddit thread, many users reported that RCS message feature is no longer working in the Google Messages app on rooted devices. If the OS has not passed GMS certification, similar to custom ROM, RCS message can’t be sent.
Android expert MishaalRahman says that Google Messages has implemented Play Integrity API attestation checks. So if you can’t compromise the RCS feature, don’t flash custom ROM on your smartphone.
Heads up: Users are reporting that the Google Messages app won't let them send or receive RCS messages if the OS is rooted or hasn't passed GMS certification (like most custom ROMs).
