Satellite SOS feature coming to Google Pixel phones, evidence leaked
Google is reportedly preparing to offer a Satellite SoS feature to Pixel phones. Pixel devices have recently received Adaptive Connectivity Services version p.2024.08 update, hinting at preparations are in full fledge for Satellite SoS.
The Adaptive Connectivity Services app 2024.08 reveals that the Satellite SoS feature is on the way to hit Google Pixel devices soon. Besides, some key details and an early look at the functionalities have been revealed as well.
Pixel’s Emergency SOS feature will let users send messages to emergency services so they can locate you, when you are out of network. It will join as a dedicated section in your Pixel phone’s Settings > Safety and Emergency area.
The page contains a description of how the feature works, the ability to customize the info that will be shared with the emergency services, and a link to purchase Garmin Search & Rescue insurance.
Google has also prepared a webpage, which will help users check whether the Satellite SOS feature is available in their country or not. The page’s link is available, but it lists nothing right now.
The search engine giant might not make it part of Android operating system. It could be a Pixel-exclusive feature, however, which Pixel handsets will be supported, remains a matter to be disclosed at the time of announcement.
