Samsung today introduced the Galaxy F15 5G phone in India. This budget phone beats the Google Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, and Pixel Fold with longer Android OS upgrade support.

Debuted as the Galaxy F15 5G, this new Samsung phone costs INR 15,999 (~$200) in India. The company guarantees 4 years of Android OS upgrades and 5 years of regular security patches.

Whether or not it will remain useful after two major upgrades is a question to be answered with time. Meanwhile, it’s a big disaster for Google’s Pixel smartphones, including Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, and Pixel Fold.

Tensor-powered Pixel devices are eligible for three years of OS upgrades and five years of security patches. The phone maker guarantees pixel 8 and upcoming flagship lineups for 7 years of OS and security updates.

Google should have combined the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, or at least the Pixel Fold, in its revised software policy. There was a huge demand by Pixel consumers to extend the software support, but Google didn’t hear.
