BREAKING: Google overtakes Samsung, grew 527% in Japan!
Google Pixel scored an outstanding growth of 527% in Japan in 2023. The country’s smartphone market growth declined by 11% year on year and vendors excluding Google were also impacted.
According to IDC, Google Pixel’s market share was just 1.5% in 2022. It surged to 10.7% in 2023, grabbing a 527% YoY growth. This solid growth led the Pixel maker to jump to third position in the Japanese phone market in 2023.
Pixel 8 series was released in October, therefore, the positive growth momentum may be in Google’s favor in the first quarter of 2024. This means that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro excellently helped Google score such a massive growth.
Apple led the market with a 51.9% share, Sharp ranked second with a 10.9% share in Japan. Google with a 10.7% share outshined Samsung (6.3%), the world’s biggest smartphone vendor.
In 2023, mobile phone shipments in Japan decreased by 11.6% YoY, totaling 30.3 million units. In smartphones, iPhone shipments decreased by 6.1% YoY and Android-based devices decreased by 16.3% YoY.
