Windows 11 ditching Amazon’s Android App Store

Microsoft announced that Amazon’s Android App Store will no longer be supported on Windows Subsystem next year. This move comes after the platform’s debut on the Windows operating system in June 2021.

Amazon revealed that Windows 11 customers cannot search for Amazon Appstore or associated apps from the Microsoft Store. Apps that you’ve been installed in the past may remain accessible as well as eligible for new updates.

Since Microsoft is ending support for the WSA, Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 won’t be supported after March 5, 2025. Both companies are uniting to create a smooth end-of-support experience for developers and customers.

As for developers, they will not be able to submit new apps targeting Windows 11. However, they (with an existing app) can submit app updates until Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 is fully discontinued.

  • Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA). As a result, the Amazon Appstore on Windows and all applications and games dependent on WSA will no longer be supported beginning March 5, 2025. Until then, technical support will remain available to customers.
  • Customers who have installed the Amazon Appstore or Android apps before March 5, 2024, will continue to have access to those apps through the deprecation date of March 5, 2025.
