Xiaomi users lost a free popular YouTube feature

Xiaomi has removed a popular MIUI feature that was allowing YouTube videos to be played in the background. The company announced that it’s removing the video toolbox’ “Play video sound with screen off” feature.

It’s worth noting that Xiaomi 14, 13, 13 Pro, and 12T, among others, are affected by the move. Whether your Xiaomi device running HyperOS, MIUI 14, MIUI 13, or MIUI 12 you will lose access to the video toolbox feature.

The Chinese phone maker mentions “compliance requirements” for the feature removal. While the company hasn’t mentioned any certain reason, Google seems to have forced the phone maker to impose this change.

YouTube Premium allows you to play videos in the background. By blocking MIUI’s intelligent trick, Google further pushes Premium subscription to YouTube users to enjoy background playback.
