WhatsApp Status copies Instagram Story mention feature

Meta-owned WhatsApp is copying the “mention contact” feature from Instagram Story for its Status service. WABetaInfo spotted in the latest Beta build for Android that WhatsApp is developing a feature to mention contacts in status updates.

Sometimes, it happens that a user posts a status dedicated to an individual or a group of people. However, the lack of ability to send notifications renders WhatsApp Status stand behind Instagram. Well, this wouldn’t be the case in the future.

WhatsApp will notify users mentioned in the Status update so they can easily grab attention. It’s like a copy of Instagram Story’s mention feature, which not only notifies the mentioned person but also allows them to make it their Story.

Status updates on WhatsApp are a highly useful feature. It has adequate functionalities to post engaging statuses to be visible to contacts or preferred ones. Meanwhile, the ability to notify certain contacts would be a welcome upgrade.
