Gmail on Android 14 now supports in-app Predictive Back features. Google hasn’t yet implemented system-level Predictive Back in the latest version of the Android operating system, however, apps are gaining support.

While Predictive Back remains a developer options feature, Android 14 brings support for custom in-app transitions/animations. Thankfully, Google is gradually updating native apps with in-app Predictive Back.

Gmail for Android version 2024.03.03.x introduces Predictive Back, which can be seen when closing an email. This complements the existing animation when tapping the back button in the top-left corner.

Ensure the Gmail app is updated to the latest release. You have to swipe back on the left/right edge to see the email screen shrink into a window. You will see your inbox in the background to provide some context.
