Android 15: Google borrowing features straight out of OnePlus Open playbook

Google Pixel Fold received a new Swipe feature with Android 15 DP2. The company has reportedly changed the last option (related to screen-awake apps) on the Pixel Fold to a more flexible option, inspired by the OnePlus Open.

OxygenOS on OnePlus Open has the option to transition practically any app from the larger inner display to the smaller outer display. When you fold the device shut, you can swipe up on the lock screen to continue using the app you were using.

Despite being the first product, Pixel Fold comes with pretty solid hardware and offers a reliable software experience. At the same time, Google is putting continuous efforts to further uplevel overall user experience on the Pixel Fold.

Following the Android 15 DP2 update, when you fold the Pixel Fold, users can choose to have the front display always turn on, never turn on, or “Swipe up to continue,” letting you turn on across any app as long as the user interacts with the front display.

That means the options are now as follows:

  • Always: Front display turns on when you fold your device
  • Swipe up to continue: Fold your phone and swipe up on the front display to continue using the app, or wait a few seconds for the screen to lock
  • Never: Front display locks when you fold your device
