Google Messages to reduce RCS contact link spam with pop-up warning

Google Messages is preparing to solve the link spam blunder from unsaved RCS contacts. The company looks to be working on a pop-up notice development, which will display when you tap on a link received as an RCS message from an unsaved number.

PiunikaWeb reports that the Google Messages app will start displaying a pop-up warning when you tap on a link from an RCS message received from an unknown number. This will significantly reduce link spam, which is the biggest pain point of Google Messages.

Following the deployment, the Google Messages app will require you to tick the Continue with possible risk box and then Continue from the dialog box that appears. Additional steps would address the link spam problem and let you open the link after prior consent and warning of risks.

Currently, the pop-up notice is hidden behind flags in Google Messages beta 20240402_01_RCO0. AssembleDebug managed to get his hands on the upgrade, which required him to manually enable certain flags. However, a Public rollout is expected to commence shortly.
