New ‘linked passes’ setting arrives on Google Wallet for Android
Google Wallet for Android is adding a new “linked passes” setting. This upgrade joins the recent launch of transit payment verification settings on Google’s digital payments and virtual wallet application.
“Automatically add linked passes” toggle is joining the Passes section in Google Wallet for Android. When updated, the app will enable it by default, while, you have the option to disable it at your convenience.
When enabled, this setting allows pass providers to automatically add related event tickets, promotions, offers, and more to your existing passes. Tapping the “Learn more” takes you to a Google Support article that isn’t live yet.
Developer documentation says Google Wallet’s Auto Linked Passes allow a provider to “send additional passes to a user who already has your existing pass in their Google Wallet. You can also pre-link passes to a primary pass when a user saves the primary (main) pass.”
The feature supports a handful of pass types including Event, Boarding, Transit, Offer, Gift card, Loyalty, and Generic. Example use cases include:
- Link an offer to an existing loyalty card.
- Link a meal voucher to a boarding pass or event ticket.
- Link a parking pass to an event ticket.
