Tired of running out of Google storage? This new Photos app feature will help!
Google offers 15GB of free cloud storage to individual accounts. This storage can be used to backup Photos, Contacts, emails, and documents along with Drive service. Google Photos app is preparing a new feature that will help you save the cloud storage of your account.
AssembleDebug discovered a new Recover storage feature in the Google Photos app. The feature is hidden behind the app’s code and flags, indicating developers are working on it. A similar feature is already available on the web version which is coming to Android’s app.
The tipster has manually enabled the hidden feature in Google Photos version 6.78. There’s a new section called Recover storage, having an option to Convert photos to Storage saver. The description reads, “Recover some storage by switching existing Original quality to Storage saver quality.”
When used, it will compress images saved on the cloud to save storage in your Google account. This will allow you to keep more photos and videos online without purchasing a Google One plan. Rather than images, this feature would be quite useful with videos as they occupy much storage.
Google Photos could roll out this feature with a future release.
