Google Photos getting many AI features, Pixel 8’s Magic Editor next month

Google announced many AI editing features and Pixel 8’s Magic Editor is expanding to all Photos app users. The company will push a major update to Google Photos starting May 15, bringing a list of new tools.

According to the info, Google Photos will add AI features like Magic Eraser, Unblur, HDR effect for photos & videos, Portrait blur, Portrait light, Color pop, Sky suggestions, Cinematic photos, Styles in collage editor, and video effects.

Magic Editor, which is currently exclusive to Pixel 8, will also be available for all Pixel smartphones. The availability might be limited to Pixel devices (phones, tablet, and Fold) that use Tensor chipsets.

Google says “You’ll also be able to access these features on more devices, including Pixel tablets.” In particular, Android phones running 8.0 and later, and iPhones with iOS 15 and later will be eligible for new tools.

Using the Magic Editor, users will be able to save 10 images per month. However, there’s no restriction on saving images on Pixel devices, and you can buy a Google One subscription of 2TB or above.

  • Portrait blur
  • Portrait light: Add light/Balance light features in the Portrait light tool
  • Color pop
  • Sky suggestions
  • Cinematic photos
