Android’s Circle to Search will get a pleasing revamp!

Google is working to reduce accidental activations of Android’s Circle to Search feature. The team behind this unique functionality revealed that it will be improved to reduce unwanted activations, making sure it triggers only when you want it to.

While gestures are a popular navigation method, many users still prefer button navigation. Due to the arrival of Circle to Search, the home button to trigger Assistant or Gemini was deactivated. Android offers an edge swipe to activate the Assistant, but CtS often gets triggered. Fortunately, Google is aware of this:

  • We still have further to go, and we’re working a lot on making sure it’s triggered when you want, [and] it’s not triggered when you don’t want.

Also, it has been revealed that “Circle to Search actually works with Lens.” While the user has to manually access Lens and do a query, Circle to Search provides instant access. Tapping works faster than circling, but the developers found the circle to be “delightful.”

9to5Google notes that Circle to Search will get further advanced, with devs citing “we have lots of ideas about what to do.” One thing that was suggested is a “merging of both the Search result page with the Lens result page, and that’s going to be rolling out over many, many months.”

Circle to Search is available on Tensor-powered Google phones alongside a handful of Samsung flagships. You can activate it by long-pressing the gesture bar or home button. It allows you to conveniently search everything being displayed on your phone’s screen.
