Google forms ‘Platform and Devices’ team consisting of Pixel, Android and more
Google announced a major structural reshuffle, forming the “Platform and Devices” team, consisting of Pixel, Nest, Android, Chrome, and more. Google’s Rick Osterloh will oversee the Platform and Devices team further.
The company will restructure its Android, Chrome, ChromeOS, Photos, and other teams to be under the same roof as Pixel, Nest, and other hardware efforts to work beneath Platform and Devices under Rick Osterloh’s leadership.
Executives denote the change to advance Google’s AI efforts. Consumers will benefit from faster development, testing, and adoption when Android, Pixel, and other teams work under the same segment.
Notably, the Google AI team’s engineer Jay Yagnik will move to Osterloh’s team to facilitate getting the latest AI models from DeepMind to the product teams. The structural change will help Google to more quickly move teams around to build product applications.
“Our Pixel family of devices has been growing well and helps to spur innovation — and accelerate the adoption of the latest Android and AI features — across the ecosystem. It’s exciting to see these teams joining forces and strengthening their collaboration to benefit users and partners.” – Sundar Pichai.
