Google Wallet is preparing to add support for the native notifications function. Despite being a standalone app, Google Wallet notifications are powered by Google Play Services.

According to the latest findings, Google Wallet will soon add support for native notifications. Google will reportedly free Wallet notifications experience from Play Services.

When you use tap-to-pay, Google Wallet’s notifications are presented by Play Services. However, the Google Wallet application is preparing to adopt its own notifications capability along with many categories.

Upon opening the Google Wallet app on several NFC-less tablets, folks over at 9to5Google were prompted by a “Don’t miss important updates” card: “Get notified when you make purchases, receive flight updates, and more.”

6 notification categories:

  1. Tips: Get helpful info on how to better use Google Wallet.
  2. Purchases: See transaction details after you make a purchase.
  3. Passes: Get updates on your events, flights, and other passes.
  4. Transit: Stay up-to-date with your transit activity.
  5. Updates & alerts: Get alerts about payment method issues, digital car keys, and more.
  6. Promotional campaigns: Get the latest info about promotional campaigns and the associated rewards and progress.
