Are you ready for the new Google Pixel phones? Google is launching its next generation of Pixel devices on August 13th, 2024, and leaks are starting to reveal more details.

This week, documents filed with the FCC (a government agency that checks electronics for safety in the US) hinted at some exciting features in the upcoming Pixel 9 phones.

Normally, these FCC documents aren’t very interesting, but this time they give us a clue about the Pixel 9’s wireless connection. There are listings for several new Google phones with model numbers like A4RGEC77, A4RGZC4K, A4RGR83Y, A4RGGX8B, and A4RGGH2X (these are likely related to the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and other variations, but the FCC website isn’t working perfectly right now so we can’t confirm for sure).

Luckily, another website can get some information from the FCC. Based on 9to5google, we can see there are 5 new Google phones listed on the FCC. These documents don’t usually tell us much, but sometimes they reveal hints about the phone’s connection abilities.

In this case, we got some good news! The documents show that at least some of the Pixel 9 phones will support a technology called Thread. Thread is important for smart home devices, so this suggests the Pixel 9 could work well with smart home gadgets that use Matter (another new smart home standard).
