Contrary to recent rumors, a reliable tech source says next year’s iPhone 17 won’t have the super-powerful chip some reports claimed. This chip, based on a new 2nm manufacturing process, isn’t expected to be ready for mass production until late 2025.

Apple‘s iPhone 17 will likely use a very good, but not the newest, chip (3nm process). This source has a history of being right about Apple’s plans, having predicted features like water resistance on the iPhone 7 and the different chips in the iPhone 14 lineup.

The super-powerful 2nm process chip might be in the iPhone 18, which comes after the iPhone 17. This chip would make the phone faster and more efficient. Even though the iPhone 17 won’t have the absolute latest chip, it should still be a very powerful phone.

The 2nm process, also known simply as “N2,” is expected to offer a 10 to 15% speed improvement at the same power or a 25 to 30% power reduction at the same speed compared to chips made with the TSMC’s ‌3nm‌ technology.
