Google unveils enhanced AI tools: Imagen 3 for better images and Gemini 1.5 Pro for smarter responses
Key Points:
- Imagen 3 delivers sharper, more detailed AI-generated images.
- Gemini 1.5 Pro improves reasoning and coding abilities.
- Google focuses on safe and accurate AI advancements.
Google has just rolled out the latest version of its AI image generator, Imagen 3, to users in the United States. This tool, now accessible through Google’s AI Test Kitchen, promises to create images with improved detail, richer lighting, and fewer visual distractions compared to its predecessors.
Although Google initially introduced Imagen 3 during its I/O event in May, it has only recently become widely available through the Vertex AI platform. Early testers, including Reddit users, began experimenting with the tool last week, and Google has since released a research paper detailing its capabilities.
Imagen 3 allows users to generate detailed images based on text prompts and offers editing options where you can modify specific parts of the image by providing further descriptions. However, there are some restrictions: the tool won’t create images of public figures like Taylor Swift or recognizable copyrighted characters, though it can still generate close approximations by tweaking the descriptions.
Despite these guardrails, Imagen 3 still contrasts sharply with Elon Musk’s Grok, another AI image generator on the X platform, which has produced controversial content, including images involving drugs, violence, and public figures in inappropriate situations.
In addition to Imagen 3, Google has also updated its Gemini AI tools. The latest version, Gemini 1.5 Pro, is now available in the Gemini Advanced model, offering better performance in reasoning and coding tasks. This update, first made available for developer testing on August 1, enhances Gemini’s ability to handle complex logical challenges and generate accurate code, making it more efficient for users.
Google’s focus on rapid iteration and user feedback has led to continuous improvements in its AI tools, with more updates expected as these technologies evolve.
