Chrome for Android now lets you color-code and sync tab groups
Top 3 Key Points:
- Chrome for Android now supports color-coding Tab Groups.
- Future updates will let you sync saved Tab Groups across devices.
- New features are available in Chrome 127 and 128 Beta.
Google Chrome has introduced a handy new feature for Android users: the ability to color-code Tab Groups. This update allows you to easily organize and differentiate your tabs by assigning them different colors, making it easier to navigate through multiple tabs.
Previously, Android users could name their Tab Groups, but now Chrome will automatically assign a color to each group. You can choose from nine different colors, similar to what’s been available on the desktop version of Chrome for a while. To change the color of a Tab Group, simply tap on the color or access it through the overflow menu. This update is rolling out with Chrome version 127 for Android, and many users are already seeing this feature enabled.
In addition to color-coding, Chrome is working on another useful feature: the ability to access saved Tab Groups on your Android device from the desktop browser. This feature, called “Save Group,” was first introduced in December. Once it’s fully rolled out, you’ll be able to find your saved Tab Groups under a new tab in the Tab Switcher, similar to how Incognito Mode is displayed. A single tap will open all the tabs in the group directly in the main Tab Grid.
To manage this feature, you can go to Settings > Tabs and toggle the option to “Automatically open tab groups from other devices.” This synchronization feature is not yet widely available but is being tested in Chrome Beta version 128. If you want to try it out early, you can enable it using the following flags:
chrome://flags/#tab-group-sync-android
chrome://flags/#tab-group-pane-android
These updates bring more flexibility and convenience to managing your tabs on Chrome for Android, making it easier to stay organized whether you’re browsing on your phone or desktop.
