YouTube mobile adds timestamp toggle for easier video clip sharing
Top 3 Key Points:
- The new toggle simplifies sharing specific video timestamps.
- Eliminates the need for manual timecode entry in links.
- Offers a more efficient alternative to the “Clip” feature.
YouTube has introduced a new feature on its mobile app that makes sharing specific parts of a video much easier. Previously, if you wanted to share a specific timestamp in a video, you had to manually add a timecode to the link or use the “Clip” feature, which was often cumbersome and limited to short, looping clips.
Now, with this update, when you tap the share button while watching a video, a toggle appears in the upper right corner of the share sheet. This toggle allows you to share a link that jumps directly to the specific point in the video you’re currently watching. This simplifies the process by removing the need to manually add timecodes like “&t=1m30s” to the link.
On the desktop, you could already manually enter a timecode, but this feature brings a similar ease of use to the mobile app. To adjust the timestamp, simply scrub through the video timeline before sharing. If you choose “Copy link,” the app will generate a link that includes the timestamp, which you can then share in other apps. This makes sharing specific moments in a video more straightforward and user-friendly.
