Google Messages Beta Update: Magic compose button disappears
In the latest twist with Google Messages, some users have noticed the Magic Compose button missing in action after updating to the newest beta version, 20250119_01_RC00. This feature, known for its AI-driven suggested replies and the fun “Magic Rewrite” options like Shakespeare or Lyrical, has seemingly vanished from the text field, leaving users puzzled.
Magic Compose offers two main functionalities: generating suggested responses based on previous chat history and providing alternative rewrites in various styles. Although the button is gone, users can still access the Magic Rewrite feature through the ‘plus’ menu. The settings menu confirms the feature is still toggled on, suggesting this is more of a temporary glitch than a permanent removal.
The revamped text field in Google Messages, which sports a sleek design with only two buttons on the right, hasn’t reached all users yet. However, this update might just be a step towards a cleaner interface, potentially placing Magic Compose/Rewrite alongside Smart Replies for a more integrated experience. Google is likely to fix this bug soon, restoring the beloved feature to its users.
