Cool new vibes for your Pixel’s Ringtones and Alerts

The Pixel Sounds app is getting a fun update that lets you customize how your phone vibrates for both ringtones and notifications.

With the big update last year, which came with the Pixel 8, we got new ringtones and alarm sounds in a collection called “Gems.” Now, Google is working on something even cooler – letting you pick special vibration patterns for your phone.

In the new version 3.2 of the Pixel Sounds app, you’ll see some changes in the settings. The sections for “Phone ringtone” and “Default notification sound” are now called “Ringtone alert” and “Notification alert,” and they’re easier to find because they’re higher up in the list.

For the “Ringtone alert,” there are now two tabs. One is for sounds, just like before, but the other one, “Vibrations,” gives you 12 different ways your phone can buzz:

  • Synchronized (“Default”)
  • Classic Long Vibration
  • Bumps
  • Buzz
  • Rhythm
  • Swirl
  • Drumbeat
  • Swoop
  • Snare
  • Gentle wave
  • Heartbeat
  • Gears

For notifications, there’s a choice of 11 vibration styles:

  • Classic Short Vibration
  • Taps
  • Blip
  • Rumble
  • Waves
  • Soft rise
  • Tremor
  • Fireworks
  • Rattlesnake
  • Whir
  • Rapid fire

Each vibration will have its own strength and length, so you can make your phone’s buzz match your style. We’re not sure yet if you’ll be able to adjust how strong the vibrations are with the current vibration settings.

The app makes it clear what you’re choosing, and it’s all linked back to the main sound settings.

This new version 3.2 isn’t out yet on the Play Store, and you can’t install it manually. It might come with the next Pixel update in March or maybe with Android 16. It’s still up in the air whether only newer Pixel phones will get this feature.
