Update for Google’s new Earbuds
Google is now sending out the first update for their new earbuds, the Pixel Buds Pro 2, to some users. When these earbuds first came out in late September, they got an update right away. Since then, they’ve been on version 2.117. But now, on a recent Monday night or Tuesday morning, someone reported seeing version 3.144. It seems like this update isn’t available to everyone yet, so it’s probably being released little by little.
To see if you can get this update, go to the settings on your phone where your earbuds show up. Look for “More settings” and then “Firmware update”. The way you update is just like with the older models:
- The update will start downloading next time you connect your earbuds to your phone or any device with Android 6.0 or later. This takes about 10 minutes, and you can still use your earbuds while it’s downloading.
- If your earbuds and their case have enough power, the update will install when you put the earbuds back in the case. This also takes around 10 minutes.
Google hasn’t said much about this update yet, but there was a hint in the Pixel Buds help forum about an update coming to fix some volume control problems. Some people couldn’t change the volume with their phone buttons, only with the buttons on the earbuds themselves. This update might also stop the earbuds from randomly disconnecting.
For new stuff in this update, there was an update to the Pixel Buds app in early January talking about a new sound alert when you correctly put your earbuds back in the case. They’ve added a new menu for this called “Case sounds”.
It would be cool if they added more features like better notifications or summaries from Gemini, Google’s AI.
