Chrome sync stops working if you don’t update soon

Google has made a new rule for its Chrome browser that might affect you if you haven’t updated your browser in a long time. From the beginning of this year, Google will stop the Sync feature on very old versions of Chrome. If your Chrome is more than four years old, you won’t be able to sync your data anymore.

When this happens, you’ll see a message on your screen saying something like “Update Chrome to start sync” or “Update Chrome to keep using your Google Account data.” This means you’ll need to update your browser to keep using or accessing your saved information.

Here’s what Google says about it:

“Starting in early 2025, if you’re using a version of Chrome that’s older than four years, Chrome Sync will stop. You’ll see messages asking you to update Chrome to either start syncing again or to continue using your data with your Google Account.”

For most people, this won’t be a problem because Chrome updates automatically whenever you restart your browser. However, if you’ve chosen to turn off these automatic updates or if you’re using a very old computer system that can’t update to newer Chrome versions, you might face this issue.

Even if you’re on an old system like Windows 7, which Microsoft stopped supporting in 2020, you can still update to Chrome 109, which came out in 2023. That gives you another couple of years before you can’t sync anymore. So, to keep everything running smoothly, make sure to update your Chrome browser regularly.
