Google testing a new blue dark mode for Android app

Recently, Google has been experimenting with a new dark mode for Google Search that’s both blue and darker than the current one. The old dark theme was more of a light gray, but the new one introduced a deeper blue shade. Back in 2022, Google had tried out a completely black background, but this time it’s all about blue.

Old vs. New

You might catch a glimpse of this new look if you’re using Google in Incognito mode without being signed into your account. Remember, this isn’t available on the main Google homepage yet, and the light theme remains unchanged.

We’ve also spotted this dark blue theme on the Google app for Android. It’s only visible on devices with the latest beta version, 16.3.32.

Google Blue Dark Theme

This new dark blue background shows up in the Home and Search tabs, making your search experience a bit more colorful. Sections like Saved and Notifications stick with gray, but the Search field and the bottom bar now have a fresh look, both appearing lighter against the blue backdrop.

This minor update gives the Google app a modern and lively feel. However, it’s still up in the air whether Google will roll this out to everyone or if it will just stay a test.
