Google Photos now lets you mirror photos, but only on Android
Google Photos has a bunch of cool editing tools, including fancy AI stuff like Magic Editor and HDR effects. But until now, it didn’t have a simple way to flip or mirror your photos. This was a bit of a surprise given all the advanced features it offers.
Back in September 2024, Google tried out a flip feature, but they pulled it back pretty quickly. Now, after more than four months, they’ve decided to bring it back for good.
A Google community manager shared on Google’s support forums that you can now find this flip feature in the Crop section of the Google Photos app. However, there’s a catch – it’s only available on Android phones. There’s no news yet on when or if iPhone users will get this feature, and it’s also not on the web version.
When you flip a photo, you can save it as a new copy, leaving the original photo just as it was. This flip tool only works for pictures, not videos. It’s probably being added through an update that happens on Google’s servers, so if you don’t see it right away, update your app from the Play Store and check again.
It’s kind of odd that it took Google this long to add something so basic to Google Photos, and even now, it’s only for Android users. Many might not have even missed this feature, but now that it’s here, it’s one less thing to worry about.
Google Photos keeps getting better despite this small oversight. It’s one of the top tools for backing up and editing photos across different devices, thanks to its user-friendly design and smart AI features like Photo Unblur and Portrait Light.
With Google continuing to explore AI, features like Ask Photos, which makes searching for photos easier, are just the beginning. Google Photos is only going to keep improving as they work more AI magic into the app.
