Google Maps fixes annoying change for car screens
Google Maps has listened to user complaints and undone an irritating update it made to its appearance on car screens.
Last month, in January 2025, Google Maps changed how it looked on Android Auto. Instead of keeping your location in the middle of the map, it moved it to the center of the screen. This only happened if you weren’t following directions step-by-step. On the small screens in cars, this was not a popular move.
Now, Google has fixed this. They’ve tweaked things behind the scenes so that when you use Google Maps in your car, your location is back to being centered on the map, not just the screen. This small change makes everything look better, especially on those tiny car displays.
We’ve seen this update in action, and others have noticed it too this week. However, not everyone has the update yet, as Google is rolling it out gradually.
When this update first came out, lots of people were upset about it. Now, with this fix, driving should be a bit more pleasant again.
