Your Pixel phone might soon suggest an easier way to make calls

Wi-Fi calling is a handy feature on today’s smartphones. It allows you to make and receive regular phone calls using the internet, which is especially useful when you’re in spots where mobile service is weak or missing. It seems that Google might start prompting you to use this feature.

We took a look at the Adaptive Connectivity Services app (version p.2025.01) and found that Google could notify Pixel users to switch on Wi-Fi calling. Here’s what we found:

The notification encourages users to activate Wi-Fi calling, helping Pixel phone users to keep chatting and texting even when mobile signals are weak. It’s not certain if this notification will appear automatically when you’re in a low-signal area or if it’s just for those who haven’t turned on the feature yet. Either way, you’ll have the option to quickly turn it on with a “turn on” button or ignore the alert with a “dismiss” button.

This could be particularly helpful for those who might have turned off Wi-Fi calling and forgot to switch it back on, or for those who aren’t very familiar with how to find and enable this setting on their phone.

However, this feature might not be useful for everyone. If you’re using a Pixel phone in a country where Wi-Fi calling isn’t supported by Google or your carrier, this reminder won’t help much. Some tech-savvy users have found ways around this limitation without rooting their phones, but for those in supported countries, this notification could be a real boon.
