Gemini and Google Maps: A new way to search
Google is making its AI assistant, Gemini, even smarter by connecting it with Google Maps. This update will make searching for information about places much simpler and more relevant to what you see on your screen.
The new version of the Google app is working on adding a special button for Google Maps. This button, called “Ask about this place,” will appear when you have Google Maps open and you activate Gemini. By pressing this button, you can quickly ask questions about any location you’re looking at on the map.
We’ve had a sneak peek at this feature in the latest beta version of the Google app. Here’s how it works: when you see a spot on Google Maps, and you want to know more about it, you just tap the “Ask about this place” button. This action adds the map link to your search query, allowing you to ask Gemini questions directly related to that location.
However, there’s a small hiccup right now – the button doesn’t appear for entire cities but only for specific spots within a city. This might be just a temporary glitch that Google will smooth out before everyone can use this feature.
This enhancement is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to make Gemini not just an assistant, but a more context-aware companion in your daily digital life, making your interactions with technology more intuitive and useful.
