New ways to organize your pictures in Google Photos
Google Photos on Android is getting an update that makes it easier to keep your photo collection neat. Before, when you wanted to change how your photos looked in the grid, you could only choose to stack similar photos or change how spread out they were shown (like by day or month). You did this by tapping the overflow menu.
Now, there’s a whole new settings page instead of just a small menu. At the top, you’ll still see the old options, but there are new choices too:
- Customize Photos from Other Apps
- See Only Backed-Up Photos: This shows you pictures from other apps that have been backed up to Google Photos or are in the process of being backed up.
Hide Clutter from Other Apps: This option hides things like screenshots, GIFs, and memes after they’ve been backed up, so your main photo view stays clean. You can also choose how you want to handle photos from each app separately. For example, you might see options for apps like Pixel Studio, Slack, Instagram, or Messenger. For each app, you can decide to:
- Show all photos
- Hide just the clutter
- Hide everything from that app
These new features are starting to appear with version 7.14 of Google Photos for Android. You’ll know it’s available when you see a banner that says “New! Keep your Photos view free of clutter from other apps” right above your Memories section. If you don’t see it, try closing the app completely and then reopening it to check the overflow menu again.
