New Chrome Update for Android: Better password management
Google is set to roll out an update for Chrome on Android that will make using different password managers easier.
Update 2/7/25: The feature to support external password managers has been pushed back to Chrome 135. This delay comes from feedback by developers who work on autofill services. Google is using this extra time to fix issues and make the new option more user-friendly.
With this update, users will:
- Be able to check if they want to use an outside autofill service directly from Chrome settings.
- Easily navigate to the exact settings page in Chrome where you can switch on third-party autofill options.
The ability to choose a different password manager will be available starting with Chrome 135.
Timeline:
- March 5th, 2025: You can try out Chrome 135 in its beta version.
- April 1st, 2025: Chrome 135 will be fully released.
- Summer 2025: The old way of handling autofill will be phased out, making the new system the only option.
This update promises to streamline how users manage their passwords, making it simpler and more secure.
